Best known for his contemporary saxophone sound, multi-instrumentalist Oliver Miguel is equally comfortable performing live or working in the recording studio, playing guitar, keyboard, composing, arranging and producing. As dynamic on stage as he is in the studio, his performances have been described as “an emotional and intimate experience.” (- www.thelivemusicreport.com), and his recordings have been reviewed as having “…rigorous improvisation and daring non-conformist arrangements [that] make this an adventure.” (- www.ejazznews.com).

A graduate of Mount Royal Conservatory (2003), Humber College of Music (2005), and Thompson Rivers University (2009), Chilean born Oliver Miguel regularly works in various genres: Jazz, Latin, Flamenco, Pop, and Hip-Hop. Miguel’s diversity and multiple talents are featured on his debut album "Esperanza" (2003). His expertise as an arranger and producer can also be heard on vocalist Janelle Monique’s album "You Go To My Head" (2008), where he recorded saxophones, guitar, and keyboards, receiving rave reviews. His album "Aire" (2010) features some incredibly accomplished international artists such as: Ralf Buschmeyer (Guitar), Ric Fierabracci (Bass), Paco Fernandez (Flamenco Guitar), Fiona Malena (Palmas & Flamenco Dancing), Alberto San Martin (Zampoña, Cuatro & Charango), Pedro Sierra (Flamenco Guitar), and Zoe Theodorou (Vocals), to name a few. In 2014, Oliver co-produced, composed and arranged Ellen Doty‘s album "Gold" which has been reviewed as “an immediate, handmade, warm-hearted statement, one that uses the personal touch to reveal all sides of a performer…” (- Calgary Herald).

Oliver Miguel has traveled throughout Canada, USA, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean to perform as a leader, a sideman, and as an in-demand session player for numerous recordings, while making special appearances on Global Television, CBC, CityTV, TLN, Shaw and various radio programs in Canada, Asia and Spain. He has worked with many prominent artists and bands in the jazz and world music genres including saxophonists: Michael Brecker, Pat Labarbera and Jane Bunnett. He has also played some of Canada’s top music festivals including opening for Chris Potter at the 2004 Calgary Jazz Festival and performing in the 2005 Montreal Jazz Festival. Oliver has performed an incredible amount of private parties including a dinner for former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and a private party for His Royal Highness Prince Philip. In October 2010, Oliver toured in Canada with legendary flamenco dancers "El Torombo" and Fiona Malena; and in March 2011 multi Juno Award Winning Cuban Pianist/Arranger Hilario Durán collaborated with Oliver for the Jazz Concert Series in Calgary. In 2012, Oliver toured Europe with the Puerto Flamenco Company with some of the finest contemporary flamenco artists of our time including "Fyty" Carrillo, Eduardo Trassierra, Encarna Anillo… where Oliver was reviewed as “the saxophone phenomenon from across the Atlantic.” (- Malta Times).

In 2013, Oliver had the opportunity to work with many prominent artists, including recording and touring western Canada with jazz vocalist Ellen Doty. Also in 2013, Oliver’s salsa orchestra, The Pana Band, which he has led since 2008, had the privilege of opening for four-time Grammy award winner Gilberto Santa Rosa for a sold-out concert in Calgary. Shortly after, Oliver’s salsa orchestra was asked to accompany Grammy award-winning singers Elvis Crespo and Jerry Rivera at their respective concerts in Canada. The Pana Band also headlined their own concert at the 2013 Lethbridge Jazz Festival. Since 2009, Oliver has been the President of the Fiona Malena Flamenco Society and has helped orchestrate the annual Calgary International Flamenco Festival and a series of sold-out concerts.

In 2014, Oliver Miguel became the first Saxophonist to endorse the Canadian made SeaWind Phil Dwyer Edition Saxophones. “When we were looking for people to represent SeaWind saxophones, Oliver Miguel was one of the first players I thought of. His playing is a combination of great technique, beautiful sound and an innovative melting pot of musical influences.” – Phil Dwyer.
